Where we stand
Mental health is not the lesser health.
We think the mind matters at least as much as the body, and that care should be built as if that were true. So we are building a mental health hospital: open and secure units, a centre for older and excluded people, and a research unit.

We are not collecting money yet. When the campaign opens, the people who volunteered and followed the build will hear first.
Why we are doing this
A broken leg gets a ward, a date and a plan. A mind in crisis gets a phone number and a waiting list. We do not accept that difference, and we are not waiting for someone else to fix it.

Both of us are court mediators. We sit with families at the point where things have already broken, and we keep meeting the same gap: there is somewhere to send a body, and nowhere to send a mind.
The hospital is our answer to that gap.
The people
Elected by the foundation to carry this.
President of the board
Wojciech Skwirowski
Court mediator since 2019, working with families and people in crisis. Read psychology at university without completing the degree. He is not a clinician, and the foundation does not present him as one.
Head of research
Monika Bar
Psychologist and Gestalt psychotherapist. Court mediator. She sets the foundation research direction and will lead the research unit inside the hospital.
What we are missing, and are saying so
Neither of us has run a hospital. A psychiatric facility needs clinical leadership, and a capital project needs people who have built one before. Appointing that board is the next thing we do, before we ask anyone for money. To be published in early 2027
Research
Research is not a wing of this hospital. It is the reason for it.
Research carried out where patients are actually treated, led by a clinician who sees them. Since the foundation was registered in 2023, this has been our main work.
Schizophrenia
Course of illness, treatment options, and what actually keeps people in remission and out of hospital.
Depression
The most common reason people reach us, and the one where the gap between knowing and doing is widest.
Prevention
Above all: methods that stop a crisis before it becomes an admission. This is where we want to make the difference.

What we are building
One place that does not send people away.
Acute care, long-term support and research on one site rather than three, so a change in someone condition does not mean starting again somewhere else.
Open and secure units
Voluntary treatment and closed-ward care in one building, so a change in a patient condition does not mean a transfer to another institution.

Centre for the elderly and excluded
Support aimed at older people living alone and at people without a stable address or income.

Research unit
Built into the hospital rather than bolted on, so findings reach the ward and the ward reaches the findings.

A crisis line needs people before it needs money.
The 24/7 support centre is designed and it is not running, because we do not yet have the people to answer it. We would rather say that than publish a number nobody picks up.
Volunteer
Psychologists, psychotherapists, crisis interventionists, trained volunteers, and people who can help with everything that is not clinical. Tell us what you can do and how much time you have.
